Luke Wetzel takes action!

Luke has officially spoken on the floor! Concerning language used to refer to young adults - he found the phrase redundent because it separated laity, clergy and young adults from each other - when indeed young adults and young people ARE laity and clergy in all voting matters.

We think that this ammendment which was supported 54% to 46% pertained to members of subcommittees. Will will clarify later - the big thing is that Luke spoke!

I was watching on the live stream when he made his amendment (yes, I'm a gc junkie!). It's pretty sad to be watching the amendments to the rules as if its interesting, I know.

I took in the young adult address and used clips from it in ESU campus ministry worship tonight. It was fun to see shots of the Kansas East and West folks on the floor. There was a great shot of Eduardo listening very intently.

I'm curious about this... one of the issues I've found with churches everywhere is that they seem to treat young singles as "second-class citizens" -- is that what you're encountering here?

We are findibg that this is a learning experience for all. There's still a lingering feeling that that young people are considered "inexperienced" at this General Conference stuff - and in some cases that is true. However, the young persons here seem to stand up and share that they have a LOT to teach the UMC! They are NOT AFRAID and that is definitely refreshing! Pray that we continue to make progress with this!
